Dr. Hidde Smit

Dr. Hidde Smit is an Independent Consultant on Analysis and Forecasts for the Rubber Economy with vast international exposure and 40 years of experience in modelling and forecasting developments in the rubber economy. Previously, he was the Secretary-General of the International Rubber Study Group, London/Singapore from 2005 until 2009. Among many others of the previous posts that he had held before; consultancies for World Bank, European Union, United Nations’ Conference on Trade and Development, Managing Director of Economic and Social Institute (ESI), Head of the Economic Research Division of the ESI,  and Associate Professor, ESI and Department of Economics at Free University, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. His expertise was also acknowledged when he became the expert to United Nations’ Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific in which he was stationed in Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Hidde Smit graduated in Mathematics and Economics in 1970 and received his Ph.D. Thesis: The World Rubber Economy to The Year 2000, from Free University, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
