Dr. John Baffes

John Baffes is a Senior Economist with the Development Prospects Group of the World Bank. Currently, he manages the World Bank’s commodity price forecasting and market monitoring process. Other responsibilities include analysis and research on market structure, policy reforms, policy advice to various country departments and senior management, and maintaining the World Bank’s commodity-related data systems. Since joining the World Bank in 1993, he has worked in several operational departments, including Mexico, Bangladesh, and various Sub-Saharan African countries. His contributes appear frequently to World Bank and external publications, including contributions to World Bank flagship publications, academic journals and books. Mr. Baffes was a key contributor to the World Bank’s flagship publication Global Economic Prospects 2009: Commodities at the Crossroads. Mr. Baffes holds a B.S. degree in Economics (University of Athens, Greece), M.S. in Agricultural Economics (University of Georgia, USA), and Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics (University of Maryland, USA).
